Slow Computer Repairs & SSD Upgrades

Find out why your computer is slow before replacing it

A computer that takes ages to start, freezes during everyday tasks or struggles with several programs open may still be worth keeping. David provides mobile troubleshooting, tune-ups and upgrade advice for home users and small businesses across Brisbane Southside, Logan, Browns Plains, Ipswich and Bayside.

Based in Heritage Park near Browns Plains, David comes to you by appointment. You deal directly with David, with over 40 years of computing experience and practical advice on whether a cleanup, upgrade or replacement makes sense.

Signs that your computer needs attention

  • Long waits when starting Windows or opening programs
  • Freezing, lag or difficulty switching between everyday tasks
  • Storage that is nearly full or a computer still using an older hard drive
  • A computer that struggles when several programs or browser tabs are open
  • Unexpected pop-ups or unwanted programs alongside poor performance

Slow performance does not automatically mean you need a new computer or an SSD. Software, startup programs, limited memory and hardware faults can all contribute. David checks the cause before recommending work.

What happens during a performance check?

First, David asks which tasks are slow and when the problem started. He checks the computer's storage, memory, startup behaviour and general condition, then explains the options in plain English.

The work may involve removing unwanted software, reducing startup clutter, addressing a fault or recommending compatible hardware. If pop-ups or suspicious browser changes are part of the problem, see the virus, malware and scam cleanup service.

Would an SSD or memory upgrade help?

Replacing an older mechanical hard drive with a compatible SSD can improve startup and program loading. A memory upgrade may help a computer that struggles with several tasks open. The right option depends on the computer, its condition and how you use it.

David can assess compatibility and discuss moving the existing system to a new drive or reinstalling Windows where appropriate. Some computers have limited upgrade options; you will get advice on whether spending money on the existing machine is worthwhile.

Tell David about important files and any existing backup before work starts. If the drive is failing or the computer will not start, mention that when booking so the condition of the drive and the files can be considered first.

Clear pricing and local service

The rate is $140 per hour with a $100 minimum charge. Labour for personal customers is capped at $420 per computer. No travel charge and no extra charge for weekends or public holidays.

The time required depends on diagnosis, cleanup and any system migration or installation work. The labour cap is not a total price for a new drive or memory; any required hardware and the proposed work are discussed before proceeding.

Common questions

Will an SSD fix every slow computer?

No. An SSD can help when an older hard drive is a major bottleneck, but it will not resolve every software or hardware problem. David checks whether an upgrade suits the computer before recommending it.

Can you keep my files and programs?

Cloning may be an option when the existing drive and system are suitable. Other jobs may need a fresh Windows installation and file transfer. David discusses the approach, backups and any software that needs reinstalling before work starts.

Is an older laptop worth upgrading?

Sometimes. Its condition, supported hardware, software needs and upgrade cost all matter. David will explain when replacement is the more sensible option.

Do I need to bring the computer to a shop?

No. David provides mobile on-site help by appointment. Call with your suburb, computer model if known, and the symptoms.

Arrange help with David

Tell David what feels slow, whether the computer still starts and what you normally use it for. You do not need to know which part or setting is causing the problem.
