New Computer Setup & Data Transfer

Get your new computer ready for everyday use

A new computer is easier to enjoy once your files, email, programs and printer are ready to use. David provides mobile computer setup and data transfer for home users and small businesses across Brisbane Southside, Logan, Browns Plains, Ipswich and Bayside.

Based in Heritage Park near Browns Plains, David comes to you by appointment. He can help plan the move from an older computer, explain what can be transferred and get your everyday setup working in your home or office.

Setup jobs David can help with

  • Initial computer setup and connection to your home or office network
  • Moving accessible documents, photos and other personal files
  • Setting up email and discussing access to existing mail
  • Installing compatible software and connecting a printer
  • Planning a practical backup for the new computer

Not every item moves in the same way. Files, installed programs, email accounts and software licences each need consideration. David explains what is possible for your particular computers before starting.

What happens during setup and transfer?

First, David asks what you use the old computer for and which files, accounts and programs you need on the new one. He checks whether the old computer and its storage are accessible, then agrees the setup and transfer work with you.

The work may include setting up the new system, transferring accessible files, installing software, configuring email and connecting your printer. David checks the agreed everyday tasks with you so you know where to find your files and how to use the setup.

What to have ready for the visit

Keep both computers, their power supplies and any backup drive available. Make a short list of the programs and files that matter most. If you have software installers or licence information, have those ready too.

You may need to sign in to accounts or approve a verification prompt during the visit. Do not send passwords, licence keys or sensitive files through the enquiry form.

When the old computer no longer starts

Tell David before booking if the old computer will not start, the drive is failing or files have disappeared. Transferring accessible files from a working computer is different from recovering data from damaged storage.

David can assess the situation and explain the options. Access to every file cannot be promised, and the condition of the old drive may change the work required. Keep any existing backup available.

Clear pricing and local service

The rate is $140 per hour with a $100 minimum charge. Labour for personal customers is capped at $420 per computer. No travel charge and no extra charge for weekends or public holidays.

The time required depends on the amount of data, the condition of the old system, the programs to install and the devices to connect. Software licences, extra storage or other purchases are discussed separately from labour. Tell David if the job involves multiple computers so the scope and pricing can be explained before proceeding.

Common questions

Will all my programs transfer automatically?

Not necessarily. Many programs need reinstalling and may need a valid licence or account sign-in. Compatibility with the new computer also matters. David discusses the important programs with you first.

Can you help with email and my printer as well?

Yes. Email and compatible printer setup can be included in the agreed work. Mention your email service and printer model when booking. For an existing connection problem, see Wi-Fi and printer troubleshooting.

Should I erase the old computer first?

Keep it available with its files until the transfer has been checked and you have confirmed that the important items are accessible on the new computer. Discuss any plans to reuse or dispose of it with David.

Can you advise before I buy a new computer?

Yes. David can discuss your needs and budget. If the current computer is mainly slow, an assessment through the slow computer repair and upgrade service may help you decide whether to upgrade or replace it.
