A young customer from Kangaroo Point contacted me after all the parts for his new gaming PC had arrived. He’d chosen the components himself and wanted someone experienced to assemble everything and set up Windows.
I arrived the next day and found an impressive collection of hardware: an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, an ASUS TUF Gaming X870-PRO motherboard, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card, a 2TB WD Black SN850X NVMe SSD and 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory.
The build also featured an Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360 liquid cooler, housed in a white SilverStone case.
More than putting the parts together
Even though the motherboard was brand new, its BIOS was already several revisions behind. I updated it as part of the setup, then installed Windows 11 and worked through the drivers and updates.
The main adjustment was getting the cooling system running quietly. The fans were initially much louder than necessary. The Arctic cooler uses a single connection to control its pump and fans together, so configuring the correct motherboard header was essential.
Once PWM control was enabled, I could adjust the cooling settings to bring the noise down while allowing the fans to increase speed as the system warmed up.
It was a straightforward build overall, with a little extra attention needed to get the cooling configured properly.
A happy customer
Afterwards, the customer left a five-star review:
“I appreciated that he explained everything and was extremely efficient and kind. Such a fantastic service and well worth the money.”
That was lovely feedback to receive. When someone has invested in a new PC, I want them to feel comfortable asking questions and understand what I’m setting up for them.
